The celebrated silk-and-lace bridal gown worn by Queen Victoria offers some clues about what Kate Middleton will wear when she walks down the aisle April 29, even if much has changed since Victoria's low-key wedding in 1840.

Victoria didn't have to get married in front of live TV cameras with thousands of reporters and photographers camped outside. And she tied the knot in a relatively small private chapel, not the cavernous chamber of Westminster Abbey.
That means a small basic dress like Victoria's simply won't do, said Joanna Marschner, senior curator at Britain's Historic Royal Palaces, which takes care of Victoria's gown and other dresses worn by past royal brides.

"The dress has to rise to the occasion," said Marschner. "It has to be big, it has to stand up to the scale of the space and stand up to the scrutiny of all those eyes. It has to carry the day, it has to say something about our time, and it has to be the choice of the bride. She has to be comfortable in it."

Despite intense interest, the identity of Middleton's designer and the style of her dress have remained a closely held secret. Palace officials say Middleton wants to surprise fiance Prince William when she steps out of her to cross the Abbey threshold.
Marschner would not make any predictions, except to say that the designer must respect the decorum associated with Westminster Abbey. That means a strapless gown or a plunging neckline are unlikely - Middleton will probably have to wait for an evening reception at Buckingham Palace if she wants to wear something more revealing.
The only generally accepted guideline is that the designer will be British. Just as Victoria used English lace and silk woven in London to show support for British industry, Middleton faces overwhelming pressure to use a British designer.

Attention has focused on Sarah Burton, creative director at the prominent Alexander McQueen house, Sophie Cranston, the lesser-known founder of the Libelula label or Bruce Oldfield, a prominent favorite of the late Princess Diana.

Cranston's name surfaced this week with press reports naming her as a possible dark horse contender for the most coveted dress commission in years.
"My thought is everyone who has been mentioned is in the running," said Astrid Joss, shopping editor at Brides magazine. "Sophie Cranston has as good a chance as anyone. It's realistic, Kate has worn her pieces. It is understated, she does slim, elegant dresses that suit Kate's style."

Choosing Cranston would be a way for Middleton to champion smaller, less expensive local designers, Joss said.

Victoria also had to make some political choices when assembling her wedding outfit.

Marschner said Victoria made sure to show support for English workers by using lace from the West Country village of Honiton and silk woven in the country.

Energetic preparation for the holidays

The holiday season can be challenging. For my readers in the United States, it starts with preparations for Thanksgiving which is celebrated the fourth Thursday in November: November 25th. In Canada, the holiday season starts after Hallowe'en and Remembrance Day. When does the holiday season get started where you live? Please let me know.

People may find the holiday season challenging for all sorts of reasons. For some it is the stress of the expectations that go along with the season. This is on top of the stressful situations many people are already experiencing with the sluggish economy in many parts of the world. So what is a person to do? Try these energetic techniques.

Step 1: Take a look at your expectations for the holidays. Do you have a really long to-do list? How long is the list for gift-giving? Are you responsible for hosting holiday festivities? Take a few moments now and write down your list of expectations. Write them all down. All the things that usually happen during the holidays that have an impact on you.

Now, review the list. First, identify the items on your list that bring you joy and lift your spirit. Now, look over the rest of the items. Have these things become a habit? Do you need to do them? Or are they things that you think are important to other members of your family? Now, an important question. If you think that some of these items may be important to other members of your family, have you asked them? At this point, you can ask family and friends if these items really matter. If they do, maybe you can accomplish them another way. The key here is to review your holiday expectations with your family and friends. Get agreement on the must-dos and let the rest go. Yes, let them go. Shorten your list of expectations for you, your family and your friends and enjoy the shortened list to the fullest.

An aside: Gift giving can get challenging as well. Consider other types of gifts. Make up coupons giving family and friends gifts of your time. You can make up coupons for child care so friends can have an evening out. You can give a coupon for dog-walking, hugs, or an afternoon skating or tobogganing. You get the idea. Give coupons that give others the gift of you. Also, family can come together and decide to give money to favourite charities rather than giving gifts. After all, what do you give people that have most everything they need?

Step 2: Now, use you imagination. Imagine that it is January 2011, the holidays are over and you are telling a friend about your holidays. You are describing one of the best holidays ever. What are you telling your friend? What does this best holiday look like? Imagine the holiday in all its glory. Use all your senses. What did you see? Who was with you? Where were you? What were you doing? How did you feel? What did you here? What did you smell? What did you taste? What did you touch?

Now that you have imagined your best holiday, you get to set an intention. Use the information that came from your imagination to set a intention for your upcoming holidays. For example, a relaxing, joyful fun holiday with family and friends that creates memories that last a life time. Now, take a few moments and write your own high intention for the holidays.

Step 3: Use energetic techniques for clearing and protection. One of the gifts you can share with the planet is to clear people, places and situations. Are there locations where heavy energy from previous holidays may be lurking? Since holidays are an annual event, heavy energies can build up unless they are cleared away. If a location comes into your consciousness, use the whirlwind technique to clear that location. Imagine whirlwinds spinning and spinning and spinning in that location. The whirlwinds spin picking up heavy energy until they have all they can hold. They take the heavy energy away, release it safely where it can be used for good and return to do more clearing. Let the whirlwinds continue in this way until you feel that it is clear enough for now. Next, ask yourself what other things you can use to do further clearing or cleaning. You amy use angelic cleaning services, scrubbing bubbles, energetic vacuum cleaners and so on. Use whatever comes into your consciousness. Next, fill the cleared space with the energies that you do want: love, joy, friendship, faith, wisdom, peace, etc. You get to choose.

Are you sensitive to the emotional energy of people around you? If you are, you may benefit from using protection. You ask yourself what form of imaginary, energetic protection is in my highest good? Some people use white light, bubbles, imaginary armour. Whatever comes into your consciousness is fine. I have a wonderful Merlin's cloak that covers me from the top of my head to the tip of my toes. It is purple with silver and gold embellishments and is very soft to the touch. My merlin's cloak protects me from the energies around me when I put it on. Protection allows you to participate fully in all that is going on around you. It provides protection from the energy around you.

I recommend that you use protection when you are going shopping.  Shopping malls are full of the stress of the season.  You can protect yourself from that.  Also, if there are members of your family or friends that you find draining, use your protection.  These people may be draining your energy.  It is likely done unknowingly on their part.  Put on your protection and feel as upbeat and energetic at the end of your visit as you did at the beginning.  ;~}

These are only a few of the energetic techniques you can use to have one of the best holidays ever. For even more ideas, listen to my VoiceAmerica Talk RAdio show from November 16th. You will find a link later in the ezine.

To the best holidays ever,
Karen

With thanks from the source: www.spiritconnections.com

© 2010 SPIRIT Connections

I don't know if you saw it, but a few months ago I emailed you about a great new book called "The 7-Day Back Pain Cure"...

Well, it was written by my good friend Jesse Cannone. Jesse is recognized as one of the leading back pain relief experts in the world.

I, like over 60% of all people suffer from back pain and this book has really helped me.

Best of all... I was able to convince Jesse to once again give the book away ABSOLUTLEY FREE once more to all our friends and customers.

It's not an eBook or anything like that... it's a real book and it's for sale on Amazon and at Barnes and Noble, but don't go buy it because if you go to his website right now you can get a free copy. You just pay a tiny shipping fee...

But it gets even better... a portion of your shipping fee is donated to one of two great charities: Habitat for Humanity or Kiva.org - you choose.

Click here to grab a FREE copy

Not only is the book valuable and helpful, but he's done such a great job in taking complicated issues like back pain and the many things that cause it, and he's broken it down into an easy to read and understand book.

I found it very eye-opening and I have already made many changes to my daily routine from how I sit, to what I eat (or don't eat), to how I exercise and more.

Plus, what I like most about the book are the "7-Day Action Plans" that he has at the end of the book... so based on your situation or condition, you choose the action plan that's best for you... then all you have to do is follow the steps. For example, if you have a herniated or bulging disc, then use that action plan.... Neck pain? page 172... Sciatica? page 178.

So, if you suffer from any type of back pain, I highly recommend you go grab yourself a free copy of his book now... and if you get to his website and they are out of free copies, I'd go buy it on amazon... it's that good!

Click here to grab a FREE copy

All the best,

Brian Proctor

With thanks from the source: www.InsightoftheDay.com
Copyright © 2010
All rights reserved

Please Click here for Free Book 7 Day Back Pain Cure
(Online - PDF Version Plus
No Shipping and Handling Costs)

Thanks for your time reading it - have best of health!

How to Exercise While Sitting at Your Computer

For most office workers, being glued to their desks while typing away at their computers for an average of 16 hours a day is already apart of their normal routine. However, sitting at the computer all day may not exactly be good for the body, as it can bring about back aches due to bad posture and eye strain, among other effects. On the other hand, being in a desk job does not have to be an ordeal for your health. If you are one of those people who have to be at a desk all day long, there are some simple steps that you can follow in order to improve your posture and keep your health in check.

1. Observe the proper sitting posture in a good chair that is designed for desk work. Your back should be straight, your shoulders back, and the top of your monitor should be level with your eyes. If you have to look down or up, then you need to adjust the height of your screen. Also, make sure that your wrists do not lay on the keyboard or on the mouse pad (unless you have a pad with a wrist rest). This will help prevent carpal tunnel Syndrome. Keep your legs bent at the knees so that the knees are only slightly higher than your hips. Feet should be flat on the floor or on a step stool of some sort.

2. Do simple stretching exercises. Stretch your arms, legs, neck and torso while sitting. This will help prevent you from feeling stiff.

* Neck: To stretch your neck, flex your head forward/backward, side to side and look right and left. This can be done almost anytime to lessen tension and strain. Never roll your head around your neck. This could cause damage to the joints of the neck.

* Shoulders: Roll your shoulders forward for around 10 times, then backward. This helps release the tension off your shoulders.

* Arms and Shoulders: A good stretch for your arms and shoulders is to brace your hands on the edge your desk, each about a shoulder width away from your body. Twist your hands in so they point towards your body and lean forwards, hunching your shoulders. Take this a step further and push your shoulders and elbows closer to the desk.

* Wrists: Roll your wrists regularly, around every hour or so. Roll the wrists 10 times clockwise, then 10 times counterclockwise. This will help prevent Carpal Tunnel Syndrome if you spend a lot of time typing.

* Ankles: Roll your ankles regularly. As with your wrists, roll the ankles in a clockwise motion 10 times, then counterclockwise. This helps improve blood circulation, and prevents that tingling feeling you can get when blood circulation is cut off, also known as "Pins and Needles".

* Chest: Notice if you tend to hunch in front of the keyboard. To counter that, perform the following exercise: open your arms wide as if you are going to hug someone, rotate your wrists externally (thumbs going up and back) and pull your shoulders back. This stretch is moving your body the opposite way to being hunched and you should feel a good stretch across your upper chest.

* Abdomen: Contract your abdominal and gluteal muscles, hold them there for a few seconds, then release. Repeat this for every few minutes all day long while you are working at your desk. You can also perform Kegals while sitting.

* Calves: Stretch your calves. While sitting, lift up your legs on the balls of your feet and set them down. Repeat until your legs are comfortably tired. Repeat after about 10 minutes later, and continue doing this routine for about an hour or so. This will exercise your calves, and will help prevent blood clots from developing in your legs. Blood clots are very common among middle-aged computer users.

It is one of the best articles elaborating so many things, so please read it in full at (with thanks to the source): http://www.wikihow.com/Exercise-While-Sitting-at-Your-Computer

July 29th, 2010 in Featured, Productivity

5 Ways to Brighten A Cloudy Day

When I was a small child, I’d curl up on my parents’ bed after the sunshine had warmed their dark brown comforter. It was an oasis of peace and safety that I struggled to find in later years. I’d made the mistake of thinking that being an adult meant no longer delighting in “silly” things like a sun-warmed blanket. I was entirely wrong.

Each day includes moments that can be deeply enjoyed or carelessly tossed aside. As I learned to identify and enjoy those moments amid the hubbub of regular life, I found more smiles and sunshine than I’d ever thought possible. Try one of the following for best results!

1. Take 15 – Shut your phone off, close the blinds, rest your eyes and listen to some music. If you like action more than mediation, so be it! Use your 15 minutes in a way that will leave you feeling most revitalized. That’s where the sunshine comes from.

2. Go for a stroll – The kind of meandering walk that is more about discovering the path than reaching a destination. If I don’t have a camera or pad handy, I like to make a mental list of a few things I discover on every stroll I take. A design element I particularly appreciate, a rabbit hopping down an alley, or a woman singing on her porch; all contribute my perspective and appreciation of the world around me.

3. Do something nice for a complete stranger – Buy a coffee, pay a toll, give a smile and a “thank you” when none is required. Giving when neither is required will open you up to a world of kindness. It also feels very, very good.

4. Laugh from your stomach – You know the kind of laugh that shakes your entire body and ends in a half-moan because you’re not sure if you can stop laughing? That kind of laugh. A moment spent in full enjoyment of humor is a great way to release tension and refuel your smile.

5. Try something not included in your normal diet - Most of us eat from a very short list of foods. Eating something entirely different will do more than expand your palate. It will help keep your sense of adventure alive!

Sometimes I still like to enjoy a bright patch of sun-soaked carpet just like I did that blanket as child. But lets not talk too loudly about that. =)

Have you joined us on Facebook yet? Let's explore!

I encourage you to read the visualization then close your eyes to work your way through it. If you need to open your eyes to remind yourself of the next step, please do so. Then close your eyes and continue with the visualization.

1. Get comfortable in a quiet location. I like to sit with my feet flat on the floor and my hands resting in my lap with the palms up and open. Having your feet on the floor helps you to root in the earth. Having your palms open indicates your willingness to receive. If you have physical challenges and my preferred position is uncomfortable, please choose the location and position that works best for you.

2. Now, notice your breathing. Follow your breath as you breathe in and as you breathe out. Breathe in easily and gently. Breathe out easily and gently. Take several easy, gentle breaths. Now, gradually deepen your breathing. Follow your breath as you breathe in and as you breathe out deeply and completely. Now, give yourself permission to relax. Feel yourself relax.

3. Now, open your consciousness and think about colours. What comes into your consciousness? Does a particular colour come to you? Does it remind you of a particular location, event or person? What comes into your consciousness when you ponder colour?

4. Now, let's explore what came to you in more detail. Do you feel any emotions? What are they? Are you happy, mad, sad, glad or something else? Ask yourself if it is in your highest good to savour this experience. If the answer is yes, please savour this experience. If the answer is no, is there anything that you could clear away? Sometimes things come up so we have the opportunity to clear them away and fill the space created with positive energy. Please use the clearing technique that works for you to carry this out.

5. Now, open your consciousness and ask yourself if you have a favourite colour? If the answer is yes, let that colour come into your consciousness. If the answer is no, ask yourself if you like many colours. If the answer is yes, let these colours come into your consiousness. If the answer is no, ask yourself to bring a favourite of a different kind into your consciousness. Explore what comes into your consciousness and savour the experience.

6. If you do have a favourite colour, what is the meaning of that colour for you? Let this information come into your consciousness. Does this colour remind you of particular places, events or people in your life? Let this information come into your consciousness easily and gently. Allow yourself to explore the meaning of this colour in your life. Savour the experience.

7. Now, begin your journey back to regular consciousness. Begin to notice your surroundings. Notice any noises in your surroundings. Notice where you are sitting. Notice your breathing. When you are ready, return to regular consiousness. Stretch and open your eyes, ready for whatever comes next in your day. Know that you will remember your experience with colour as you continue on with your day.

To the joy of colour,
Karen

© 2010 SPIRIT Connections

The energy of colour

When I was a young child, my favourite colour was a true, pure red. My favourite winter coat was red with a fake fur lining in white with black spots. I felt very special when I wore that coat! Then, in turn, my favourite colours were orange, yellow, green, blue, purple and magenta. Do you notice the pattern? Yes, you guessed it: all the colours of the rainbow. Now, as I mentioned, I adore all the colours.

Did you know that colour is energy? Colour is the part of light that we can see. Since light has energy, colour too is a form of energy. Sir Isaac Newton discovered that sunlight is a mixture of colours. He noticed that when a ray of sunlight passes through a prism, it becomes seven colours: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet.

A colour wheel shows us that there are three primary colours: red, yellow and blue. These colours are unique. All the remaining colours are made up of these three colours. There are three secondary colours: orange, green and purple. These colours are made by combining two of the primary colours. Red and yellow create orange. Yellow and blue make green. Combining blue and red gets purple. Then these colours can be combined to create even more colours called tertiary colours.

Did you know that we have a physical response to colour? For example, red is a stimulating colour and has been shown to raise blood pressure and speed up the rate of breathing. Blue and green are calming colours and help us to relax.

We also react to color based on our culture and life experiences. These reactions may have physical, emotional, mental and spiritual energetic components. For example, white is used for weddings in most Western countries while it is the colour of mourning and funerals in many Eastern countries. Also, having pleasant or unpleasant experiences associated with a colour make us respond to it differently. We may be happy, sad, or mad due to the memories connected with a specific colour.

So, you now know that colour is a form of energy and colours can have energetic impacts on us.In the next issue of Good Vibes with Karen, you will discover more about specific colours.

To the joy of colour,
Karen

© 2010 SPIRIT Connections
