The Essence of Happiness

Many times I wondered where love and happiness come from and how can we love with a pure, detached, selfless, unconditional love? I even started an ex...

Many times I wondered where love and happiness come from and how can we love with a pure, detached, selfless, unconditional love? I even started an experiment with two friends, a few weeks ago, to experience the detached, unconditional love, without expecting anything in return for 49 days in a row. Believe me, this is not easy. Because many times we expect from our lover the same kind of love we offer. We have expectations and we worry that we are not loved the way we would like to be loved. We have desires which transform into sufferance if they are not immediately fulfilled. We expect from our lover to make us happy, and we put our happiness in their hands. Is this real love or is just a mixture of desires, expectations and love? Is our happiness completely dependent on others or is entirely dependent on us? Is receiving love more fulfilling than giving love?

I started to look for answers to these questions and I found that my true nature is pure happiness and pure love; that my happiness doesn’t depend on the actions and reactions of anybody else, but me. I went deeper in this search, seeking for the essence of love and happiness and really wanting to experience them in their purest form.

So I did some research, reading the book “The mastery of Love” by Don Miguel Ruiz, in which I found a beautiful story about “The man who didn’t believe in love”.

In this story, there is this man who didn’t believe that love exists. He had his own experiences about love and he concluded that love is just an invention of the poets and of the religions who want to have control over people and make them believe. He even thought that love is addictive. When you get your daily dose of love, you feel happy. But what happens when you don’t? Then the fear that you won’t receive love anymore makes you controlling and even manipulative. So he told everyone he met that what humans call love is nothing but a fear relationship based on control.

Then one day, he met a woman who too believed that love doesn’t exist. She had her own experiences in her relationships and she also concluded that we look for love, we open our hearts and we become vulnerable, just to find selfishness. That hurts, so this will repeat no matter how many relationships we have, the same thing happens again, so what’s the point of looking for love anymore? So love doesn’t really exist.

So they realized that they are so much alike and they became the best friends ever! They respected each other and they never put each other down. They were happy exactly the way they were. There was no envy, or jealousy, no control or possessiveness. They loved being together, because they had a lot of fun and they were very happy!

But one day, the man had the weirdest idea: Maybe what I feel for her is love!

And he told her about his idea. She said that she had the same idea, but she didn’t want to tell him about it because she knew that he didn’t believe in love.

So they concluded that maybe love does exist, but it isn’t what everybody thought it was. So they started to live together and they became lovers and it was amazing that their relationship didn’t change.

Until one night, when the man’s heart was so full with love that a miracle happened: he was looking at the stars and he saw the most beautiful one, and his love was so big that the star started to come down right into his hand and his soul merged with the star. He was intensely happy and he couldn’t wait to go to the woman and put the star in her hands to prove his love for her. As soon as he put the star in her hands, she had a moment of doubt, and the star fell from her hands and broke into millions of pieces.

Now there is an old man walking around the world saying that love doesn’t exist and there is a beautiful old woman waiting for a man, shedding a tear for the paradise that once she had in her hands, but for one moment of doubt it was lost forever.

Don Miguel Ruiz concludes in his book:

“Who made the mistake? Do you want to guess what went wrong?
The mistake was on the man’s part in thinking he could give the woman his happiness. The star was his happiness and his mistake was to put his happiness in her hands. Happiness never comes from outside of us. He was happy because of the love coming out of him. She was happy because of the love coming out of her. But as soon as he made her responsible for his happiness, she broke the star because she could not be responsible for his happiness.

If you take your happiness and put it in someone’s hands, sooner or later she is going to break it. If you give your happiness to someone else, she can always take it away.

Then if happiness can only come from inside of you and is the result of your love, you are responsible for your happiness. We can never make anyone responsible for our own happiness.”

So here was the answer I was looking for! Happiness comes from inside of us, not from outside! As Eckhart Tolle also says, pure happiness is our true nature. We kind of look for reasons to be unhappy, many times in our life, but what we miss seeing and understanding is that we are truly happy right here and now, in the present moment! Really, if you take a moment and you stop everything you are doing right in this moment, you close your eyes and you merge deeply inside of your heart, what do you think you will discover there? That you are perfectly happy right in this moment! And the love you are always looking for outside of you, seeking and seeking and waiting for it to come in your life, is again inside of you! And you know what will happen next, after you realize these two important things? That when you give this love to someone and when you share this love and happiness with someone you love, just sharing, giving, without expecting anything in return, this love and happiness will double and even triple! Because now there is not only one happiness and love, there is more and even more, each day! And as long as you don’t put any restrictions to your love or happiness, it will flow uninterrupted forever and it will grow every day! So from this moment on, you are no longer dependent on the actions and reactions of somebody else, you are entirely responsible for your own happiness and you are in the flow of life, not beside it.

I honor the divinity within you! Namaste!

With love,

Delia

Read the article on my blog: "Open Your Heart Project"

http://openyourheartproject.blogspot.com/2011/06/essence-of-happiness.html

After about 34-35 years, I went to my grandparent's village and spent about a month over there. It was such a wonderful and blissful that I have no words. God seem to live in the villages and thus in the rural as the people there are closer to nature and the natural world.

Right from my childhood, I have never been away from my home at Patiala. The only time when I went away was to study in Australia during 1989 - 1991. Then after coming back from there (Australia), I started to visit my relatives at about the age of 23-24 years. However, I had never visited my granny's land that belong to my mother and father's parents. The only time I visited was when I about 6-7 years of age.

It was amazing to realize that I was never been able to visit as we have had buffaloes and cows at home that always kept our family so busy and engaged in work and studies leaving no time to leave even for single night. If my mom ever visited it was just for from morning to evening for her entire life during 1970's to around 2005.

From 1975-76 to 1995-1996, my study load has always been at least 24 points and work 50 hours per week, while working in the home based dairy form with cows and buffaloes!

I feel I am no longer a work alcoholic for online works as I decided that I would finish all of my works either by end of 2009 or at most 2010.

Now, I feel lot better and relaxed.

Thanks and I feel closer to nature and my friends both online and offline.

I wish all a wonderful ending of this wonderful year 2010 that is just going to shake hands with next year 2011. Yes, indeed we all are proud to share Happy Christmas. May it has ever ending for all of us of what begins with tears of humanly pain and ends in tears of joy as if a prayer that brings tears as if always heard, and it is so. Amen!

Thanks for your time reading it and good wishes, blessings and prayers.

Liver Panel Tests

Liver Panel Tests

What is being tested?
A liver panel is a group of tests that are performed together to detect, evaluate, and monitor liver disease ...

Liver Panel Tests

What is being tested?
A liver panel is a group of tests that are performed together to detect, evaluate, and monitor liver disease or damage. The liver is one of the largest organs in the body and is located in the upper right-hand part of the abdomen and behind the lower ribs. The liver metabolizes and detoxifies drugs and substances that are harmful to the body. It produces blood clotting factors, proteins, and enzymes, helps maintain hormone balances, and stores vitamins and minerals. Bile, a fluid produced by the liver, is transported through ducts directly to the small intestine to help digest fats or to the gallbladder to be stored and concentrated for later use.
A variety of diseases and infections can cause acute or chronic damage to the liver, causing inflammation, scarring, bile duct obstructions, clotting abnormalities, and liver dysfunction. Alcohol, drugs, some herbal supplements, and toxins can also pose a threat. A significant amount of liver damage may be present before symptoms such as jaundice, dark urine, light-colored stools, pruritus, nausea, fatigue, diarrhea, and unexplained weight loss or gain emerge. Early detection is essential in order to minimize damage and preserve liver function.
The liver panel measures enzymes, proteins, and substances that are produced or excreted by the liver and are affected by liver injury. Some are released by damaged liver cells and some reflect a decrease in the liver's ability to perform one or more of its functions. When performed together, these tests give the doctor a snapshot of the health of the liver, an indication of the potential severity of any liver injury, change in liver status over time, and a starting place for further diagnostic testing.
The panel usually consists of several tests that are run at the same time on a blood sample. These may include:
•	Alanine aminotransferase (ALT) – an enzyme mainly found in the liver; the best test for detecting hepatitis
•	Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) – an enzyme related to the bile ducts; often increased when they are blocked
•	Aspartate aminotransferase (AST) – an enzyme found in the liver and a few other places, particularly the heart and other muscles in the body
•	Bilirubin – two different tests of bilirubin often used together (especially if a person has jaundice): total bilirubin measures all the bilirubin in the blood; direct bilirubin measures a form that is conjugated (combined with another compound) in the liver
•	Albumin – measures the main protein made by the liver and tells whether or not the liver is making an adequate amount of this protein
•	Total Protein – measures albumin and all other proteins in blood, including antibodies made to help fight off infections
Depending on the doctor and the laboratory, other tests that may be included in a liver panel are:
•	Gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) – another enzyme found mainly in liver cells
•	Lactic acid dehydrogenase (LDH)
•	Prothrombin time (PT) – the liver produces proteins involved in the clotting (coagulation) of blood; the PT measures clotting function and, if abnormal, may indicate liver damage.
How is the sample collected for testing?
A blood sample is obtained by inserting a needle into a vein in the arm.

For more information visit: http://www.rxcut.com/hbg

Instructions for Finding Maternity Acupressure Points - eHow Video

Video Transcript: Instructions for Finding Maternity Acupressure Points

by

Hillary Talbott, acupuncture physician and clinical herbalist, St. Petersburg...

Video Transcript: Instructions for Finding Maternity Acupressure Points

by

Hillary Talbott, acupuncture physician and clinical herbalist, St. Petersburg, Florida

"Hi, I'm Hillary Talbott, acupuncture physician and clinical herbalist, coming to you from St. Petersburg, Florida. Today, we're going to be talking about, how to locate acupressure points during maternity. Now, it is extremely important to understand which points are contraindicated in maternity. As many of them can induce labor. In order to do this, you should visit your local acupuncture physician. And go over certain points that are applicable and those that are contraindicated, while you're pregnant. Today, we're going to talk about a common point, Pericardium-6, that is often used for nausea. This point is easily found in between the two tendons of the medial side of the hands. And then, a general rule of thumb, is that the point is just after, where the vein crosses across the tendons. So, after you locate where the vein crosses. Applying gentle pressure with your finger tip, to this area and sometimes in a circular motion. While taking deep breathes, can often relieve nausea associated with pregnancy. This can be done throughout the day. And another helpful technique, is to get acupressure seeds applied by your acupressure physician. So that they stay in place for a number of days. Another great point that is contraindicated during pregnancy, but often helps to start labor, is Gallbladder 21. Now, this point is found at the top of the Trapezius muscle. And to do this, you just squeeze the top of the shoulder blade, gently. And when you find the crest of it, your finger kind of, falls into a hollow point, here. Now, you can get some relief, if you do one point on yourself. But it's often more effective, if you have your birthing partner, pressing both, bilaterally at the same time. Now, we're not going to press hard, today because our patient isn't ready to go into labor, yet. But if you are around week 39, 40 and you haven't started and you wish to slowly begin the process of moving chi. To hopefully begin labor on time, this would be an effective point. During labor, this is also very helpful for descending action. And sometimes, thumb pressure with the leverage of your arms, may not even be enough during contractions. And you may wish to have your partner, actually use their elbow to press down on the point. Again, while you're pregnant, it is such a special time. So, it's important to understand which points on your body could possibly induce labor. And which will be helpful for minimizing the effects associated with being pregnant. In order to do this, find your local acupuncturist, skilled in treating pregnant women. And you ca do that on AcuFinder.com or Aborm.org, A, B, O, R, M.org. I'm Hillary Talbott and that was acupressure during maternity."

Read more: Instructions for Finding Maternity Acupressure Points: Acupressure | eHow.com http://www.ehow.com/video_7309630_instructions-finding-maternity-acupressure-points.html#ixzz12DY8edgq

5 Ways to Help Your Overweight Child

If your child is overweight, it's important to make small changes that are easy to adjust to rather than take drastic measures. Here are a few ways you can help your child eat healthier and make better choices.

1. Do Not Solely Focus on the Overweight Child

Don't single out the overweight child; instead, create an environment of support and change. Have the whole family eat the same healthful foods and cut back on fast food. Nothing is worse than being forced to eat a diet meal while everyone else at the table enjoys your favorite foods. Rather than providing your overweight child with special food, make the point that everyone is trying something new tonight. Consider keeping serving dishes away from the table and downsizing your dinner plates, two changes that can prevent both kids and adults from overeating.

2. Teach Your Kids About Better Choices, Portion Size and Food Labels

Take your children grocery shopping and talk to them about making smart choices among the many varieties of foods that are available at the store. Make a point to teach your kids how to read food labels and to pay special attention to serving sizes and total number of servings on the packaging of their favorite foods. Let them pick out a new fruit or vegetable to try at least once a week. Better still, let them help you prepare the new food (or watch you do so, if they're still a bit too young) so they can learn healthy cooking techniques that will serve them well in the future.

3. Talk to Your Kids About Emotional Eating and the Sense of Hunger

Many of us tend to give in to emotional eating, and kids may eat in response to feelings such as sadness and anxiety, too. It's important to help your child avoid eating for these reasons because emotional eating is a tough habit to break. Talk to your children about whether or not they're really hungry when they want a snack; you may find they'll admit they're not if asked outright. Discuss why eating as a result of boredom or anxiety isn't a good habit. If your child does eat emotionally, it's even more important that you choose the snacks you keep on hand carefully and limit or eliminate highly-processed, high-calorie foods such as candy, cookies, and snack cakes. Remember, if it's not in the house, your kids can't eat it.

Please read more from the source (with our thanks): http://weightloss.about.com/od/childhoodobesity/a/helpkids.htm?nl=1

Thanks for your reading it.

Bach Flower Remedies: Chicory And Conditional Love

The Bach flower remedy Chicory is about loving without conditions in its perfect positive state. In its negative state when it is absent however, the person is the classic case who never lets you forget what you owe him and what he’s done or keeps doing for you. Their constant complaint is they have done so much for you and after all that, look at the way you repay them. It’s almost as though every little gesture were a calculated attempt at keeping score of how much you owed him. He can be expansive and seem very generous but there will come a time when he comes around to collect what he feels is a fitting exchange for what he gave.

Physical

Never mind how self interested they are, in the beginning they come across as warm and very helpful folk. You usually never suspect in the beginning that everything they give you comes with conditions attached. Then slowly, they start to want to have a say in everything you do. Followed of course with payback time. With Chicory, they learn to be nice without expecting anything in return – just for the sheer pleasure of being nice. It’s a great children’s remedy – the sweet child who is nice to everyone and the moment she is thwarted, turns tantrummy and sullen. Just because she feels she is well behaved, she also expects not be checked or corrected for anything.

Mental

When someone needs Chicory, he is constantly assessing and calculating everything he does for everyone in his mind. It’s almost like his mind keeps score and attaches a value to every good deed he does so he can recover it in full measure later. In their minds, there is this tremendous need for affection and it very often stems from being unloved as a child – and getting attention by making people feel obliged. Chicory makes a person like this more balanced and not feel the need for outside attention to feel good inside. It also teaches him that he cannot expect anything just because he helps or gives.

Emotional

Emotional blackmail is common in people who need Chicory. It’s like a parent who does a lot for a child and then keeps reminding him about it till the day she dies. Or a person who tries to help by giving advice which usually turns into finding fault. This person will always make it out that it is because they love you so much and care for you that they are pointing out flaws in your make-up. Chicory takes away this ‘holding on’ with invisible emotional strings and helps a person to be more self sufficient.

Spiritual

Bach Flower Remedies: Chicory And Conditional Love

These people, once they get into the positive Chicory state will astound you with their incredible capacity for loving and giving. A woman could become the epitome of motherhood while a man could rise to his full potential in every way, including spiritual growth. They learn to respect another’s territory and stop wandering into areas that should not be of any concern to them.

(With thanks from the source: http://hubpages.com/hub/Chicory-And-Conditional-Love)

More about Chicory:

Chicory (Cichorium intybus) is the Bach Flower Remedy for people that are full of love and care for their families and friends - But they expect to receive back all the love they give, with interest, and feel slighted and unnecessarily hurt if they don't get what they expect. Also, their great love can lead them to hold onto their loved ones and try to keep them dependent and close to hand. This can stifle the development of other personalities, or simply drive them away. When someone falls into this negative Chicory state the remedy is used to bring out the positive side of the Chicory person: love given unconditionally and in freedom. Dr Bach's description: Those who are very mindful of the needs of others; they tend to be over-full of care for children, relatives, friends, always finding something that should be put right. They are continually correcting what they consider wrong, and enjoy doing so. They desire that those for whom they care should be near them.

Chicory Usage: Take two drops in a small glass of water and sip at intervals or take directly under tongue. Every bottle comes with it's own dropper to perfectly measure four drops. It can also be used on the pulse points, or moistened lips.

Additional Information / Warnings: Gentle, safe effective treatment for the whole family. No artificial additive. Suitable for vegetarians. If pregnant or breast feeding, ask a health professional before use.
