American black bears appear in a variety of colors despite their name. In the eastern part of their range, most of these brown, red, or even yellow coats. To the north, the black bear is actually gray or white in color. Even in the same litter, both brown and black furred bears may be born.

Black bears are the smallest of all American bears, ranging in length from five to six feet, weighing from three hundred to five hundred pounds Their eyes and ears are small and their eyesight and hearing are not as good as their sense of smell.

Like all bears, the black bear is timid, clumsy, and rarely dangerous , but if attacked, most can climb trees and cover ground at great speeds. When angry or frightened, it is a formidable enemy.

Black bears feed on leaves, herbs. Fruit, berries, insects, fish, and even larger animals. One of the most interesting characteristics of bears, including the black bear, is their winter sleep. Unlike squirrels, woodchucks, and many other woodland animals, bears do not actually hibernate. Although the bear does not during the winter moths, sustaining itself from body fat, its temperature remains almost normal, and it breathes regularly four or five times per minute.

Most black bears live alone, except during mating season. They prefer to live in caves, hollow logs, or dense thickets. A little of one to four cubs is born in January or February after a gestation period of six to nine months, and they remain with their mother until they are fully grown or about one and a half years old. Black bears can live as long as thirty years in the wild, and even longer in game preserves set aside for them.

Vedic Punjab and Indian Civilization: A Review with Thanks to Bent Lorentzen: Why Punjab is the Defender of Natural World

I personally have researched and found that Aryan Invasion is a false theory to mislead people when European have greater political and thus ruling powers. Based on all works and description that are preserved from Vedic Literature to latest that we know as Shri Guru Granth Sahib, the Holy Book of Sikhs (http://www.searchgurbani.com/guru_granth_sahib/introduction) as authority over mythology and history. It talks and discusses everything based on the Quantum Physics and presence of Arts that we know as Classical Indian Arts and present in the other parts of the world.

These Classical Arts always has been gained by all sages, saints and spirituals without teachers. This very thing is known as if gift from the Spirit. The knowledge has ego as its root of action and that needs accepting something or some authority as teacher, the Guru. For example even Lord Rama and Krishna, who were masters of 14 and 16 Classical Arts also requested the master of each art as their gurus.

We are left with least of these classical arts alive with their major and minor classes and categories in the Modern Indian Civilization and World in general.

These Gurus, the teachers who help to receive the gifts from the spirit to preserve the natural world. This natural world is thus considered the Visible Form of God. Thus, all of it helps preserve all the Arts that go into Genes and also creates an Environment.

Many people in the modern age, particularly in the west consider the Teacher-taught as if a theory that Indians follow to keep the Civilization alive. We have this very teacher-taught relation for all faculties of human knowledge and wisdom. It spreads into animal kingdom and green world, and thus to the natural world. The Natural World is thus considered a teacher in its own open school.

The incomparable respect is given to the mother as she simply does not just conceives a sperm that has been preserved and developed by nature in male but also in the womb in which the same nature nurtures the same sperm within the egg. This comes out as a human body and other forms among the mammals. As the 4 kinds of life include sweat (perspiration), placenta, vegetation (With thanks from the source: http://www.sikhnet.com/news/water-and-origin-life)

It thus also includes the scientific discussions from creation of the universes to invasions of the Mughals embrace that from the Vedas to Holy Bible, Holy Quran and some other modern scriptures has not been put to question with deep intuitive and divine research works that we call as finding the truth without external aids. That means after reading and understanding everything that meets the criteria of Six Schools of Philosophy that has been main thing in world civilization.

I have studied his grammar of Shri Guru Granth Sahib that is in the Gurumukhi Scrip, in which Bhai Sahib Singh has proved that the Gurmukhi Script as the Punjabi language is the modern form of the Sanskrit. His grammar book also inspired me to write my own grammar book that I finished in 1996 but has never have been able to put it into publication for some reasons. His Grammar of Gurmukhi and thus the Gurbani by itself is written as in the Gurmukhi Script Punjabi. (With thanks from the source: http://www.sikhiwiki.org/index.php/Professor_Sahib_Singh#Discovery_of_Gurbani_Grammar)

Vedic Punjab

The Rig-Veda, one of the older texts in South Asia, is generally thought to have been composed in the Greater Punjab. It embodies a literary record of the socio-cultural development of ancient Punjab (known as Sapta Sindhu) and affords us a glimpse of the life of its people. Vedic society was tribal in character. A number of families constituted a grama, a number of gramas a vis (clan) and a number of clans a Jana (tribe). The Janas, led by Rajans, were in constant inter-tribal warfare. From this warfare arose larger groupings of peoples ruled by great chieftains and kings. As a result, a new political philosophy of conquest and empire grew, which traced the origin of the state to the exigencies of war.

An important event of the Rigvedic era was the "Battle of Ten Kings" which was fought on the banks of the river Parusni (identified with the present-day river Ravi) between king Sudas of the Trtsu lineage of the Bharata clan on the one hand and a confederation of ten tribes on the other.[5] The ten tribes pitted against Sudas comprised five major the Purus, the Druhyus, the Anus, the Turvasas and the Yadus—and five minor ones, origin from the north-western and western frontiers of present-day Punjab—the Pakthas, the Alinas, the Bhalanas, the Visanins and the Sivas. King Sudas was supported by the Vedic Rishi Vasishtha, while his former Purohita the Rishi Viswamitra sided with the confederation of ten tribes.[6]

Out of such conflicts, struggles, conquests and movements of the Vedic of the Middle and Later Vedic age emerged the Punjab, a society that laid special stress on the value of action as depicted by their ideals and standards in the Hindu Epics, notably the Mahabharata.

Epic Punjab

The philosophy of heroism of the Epic Age is expounded in the Bhagavatagita section of the Mahabharata. That work is a synthesis of many doctrines and creeds, but its oldest core is arguably the enunciation of a martial and heroic cult. The Bhagavatagita expounds a philosophy of heroism probably current in the then Punjab. It provides a philosophical foundation to the profession of arms and invests the Kshatriya or warrior with respectable position and noble status. It canonizes his professional integrity and injects an intensity of purpose into it. The exploits of the civilization can be seen in the accounts of the charges of the Kauravas against the Pandavas. The epic says that the contingents of Gandharas, Kambojas, Sauviras, Madras and Trigartas occupied key positions in the Kaurava arrays throughout the epic war.[7]

Another important event that involved the Punjabis was the conflict between the Indo-Aryan Rishi Vishwamitra of the Kurukshetra area and Sage Vasishtha from the north-western parts of greater Punjab (i.e., the region extending from Swat/Kabul in the west to Delhi in the east).[8][9] The story emerges in the Rigveda and more clearly later Vedic texts and is portrayed in the Bala-Kanda section of the Valmiki Ramayana. The epic conflict is said to have been sparked over the re-possession of Kamadhenu, also known as Savala, a divine cow by Vishwamitra from a Brahmana sage of the Vasishtha lineage. Rsi Vasishtha solicited the military support of the frontier Punjabi warriors consisting of eastern Iranians—the Shakas, Kambojas, Pahlavas, etc., aided by Kirata, Harita and the Mlechcha soldiers from the Himalayas. This composite army from frontier Punjab ruined one Akshauni army of Vishwamitra, along with all of his 100 his sons except one.[10] Indologists like Dr H. C. Raychadhury, Dr B. C. Law, Dr Satya Shrava and others see in these verses the glimpses of the struggles of the Aryans with the mixed invading hordes of the barbaric Sakas, Yavanas, Kambojas, Pahlavas etc. from the north-west.[11][12][13][14] The time frame for these struggles is said to be the 2nd century BCE. Raychadhury fixes the date of the present version of the Valmiki Ramayana around/after 2nd century CE.[15]

Punjab during Buddhist times

The Buddhist text Anguttara Nikaya[16] mentions Gandhara and Kamboja among the sixteen great countries (Solas Mahajanapadas) which had evolved in/and around Jambudvipa prior to Buddha's times. Pali literature further endorses that only Kamboja and Gandhara of the sixteen ancient political powers belonged to the Uttarapatha or northern division of Jambudvipa but no precise boundaries for each have been explicitly specified. Gandhara and Kamboja are believed to have comprised the upper Indus regions and included Kashmir, eastern Afghanistan and most of the western Punjab which now forms part of Pakistan.[17] At times, the limits of Buddhist Gandhara had extended as far as Multan while those of Buddhist Kamboja comprised Rajauri/Poonch, Abhisara and Hazara as well as eastern Afghanistan including valleys of Swat and Kunar and Kapisa etc. Michael Witzel terms this region as forming parts of the Greater Punjab. Buddhist texts also mention that this northern region especially the Kamboja was renowned for its quality horses & horsemen and has been regularly mentioned as the home of horses.[18] However, Chulla-Niddesa, another ancient text of the Buddhist canon substitutes Yona for Gandhara and thus lists the Kamboja and the Yona as the only Mahajanapadas from Uttarapatha[19] This shows that Kamboja had included Gandhara at the time the Chulla-Niddesa list was written by Buddhists.

Pāṇinian and Kautiliyan Punjab

Pāṇini was a famous ancient Sanskrit grammarian born in Shalātura, identified with modern Lahur near Attock in the Northwest Frontier Province of Pakistan. One may infer from his work, the Ashtadhyayi, that the people of Greater Punjab lived prominently by the profession of arms. That text terms numerous clans as being "Ayudhajivin Samghas" or "Republics (oligarchies) that live by force of arms". Those living in the plains were called Vahika Samghas,[20] while those in the mountainous regions (including the north-east of present-day Afghanistan) were termed as Parvatiya Samghas (mountaineer republics).[21] According to an older opinion the Vahika Sanghas included prominently the Vrikas (possibly modern Virk Jatts), Damanis, confederation of six states known as Trigarta-shashthas, Yaudheyas (modern Joiya or Johiya Rajputs and some Kamboj), Parsus, Kekayas, Usinaras, Sibis[22] (possibly modern Sibia Jatts?), Kshudrakas, Malavas, Bhartas, and the Madraka clans,[23] while the other class, styled as Parvatiya Ayudhajivins, comprised among others partially the Trigartas, Darvas, the Gandharan clan of Hastayanas,[24] Niharas, Hamsamaragas, and the Kambojan clans of Ashvayanas[25] & Ashvakayanas,[26] Dharteyas (of the Dyrta town of the Ashvakayans), Apritas, Madhuwantas (all known as Rohitgiris), as well as the Daradas of the Chitral, Gilgit, etc. In addition, Pāṇini also refers to the Kshatriya monarchies of the Kuru, Gandhara and Kamboja.[27] These Kshatriyas or warrior communities followed different forms of republican or oligarchic constitutions, as is attested to by Pāṇini's Ashtadhyayi.

The Arthashastra of Kautiliya, whose oldest layer may go back to the 4th century BCE also talks of several martial republics and specifically refers to the [Kshatriya Srenis (warrior-bands) of the Kambojas, Surastras and some other frontier tribes as belonging to varta-Shastr-opajivin class (i.e., living by the profession of arms and varta), while the Madraka, Malla, the Kuru, etc., clans are called Raja-shabd-opajivins class (i.e., using the title of Raja).[28][29][30][31][32] Dr Arthur Coke Burnell observes: "In the West, there were the Kambojas and the Katas (Kathas) with a high reputation for courage and skill in war, the Saubhuties, the Yaudheyas, and the two federated peoples, the Sibis, the Malavas and the Kshudrakas, the most numerous and warlike of the Indian nations of the days".[33][34] Thus, it is seen that the heroicraditions cultivated in Vedic and Epic Age continued to the times of Pāṇini and Kautaliya. In fact, the entire region of Greater Punjab is known to have reeked with the martial people. History strongly witnesses that these Ayudhajivin clans had offered stiff resistance to the Achaemenid rulers in the 6th century, and later to the Macedonian invaders in the 4th century BC.

According to History of Punjab: "There is no doubt that the Kambojas, Daradas, Kaikayas, Madras, Pauravas, Yaudheyas, Malavas, Saindhavas and Kurus had jointly contributed to the heroic tradition and composite culture of ancient Punjab".[35][36]

Please read more about it including the following:

Invasions:
Persian domination
Alexander's invasion

Maurya Empire
Indo-Greek kingdom
The Shahi Kingdoms and the Muslim invasions
The Delhi Sultanate and Mughal empire (Main article: Mughal Empire)
The rule of the Sikhs
The British in Punjab
The Punjab of Republic of India and Pakistan

from the source with thanks: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_Punjab#Vedic_Punjab

Vedic Punjab and Indian Civilization: A Review with Thanks to Bent Lorentzen: Why Punjab is the Defender of Natural World has been inspired by a wonderful wall-post by Bent Lorentzen having the most beautiful words showing reverence for natural world as: "...the mother's side of the family into deep history, it additionally means that all life, the land and habitat systems that support life, is considered the deepest mother, again deeply reinforcing an indellible love, respect, connectivity and desire to preserve their habitat's ecosystem... and this is also reflected in the way many tribes and clans encourage their young to study the sciences that have to do with ecology."
My research works, studies and writing are based on what we share here.

Well, I have done full day fasting for more than a year in 1994-95 and then taking some juices and sweets things that were foods though, and also no table salt during day for about a next year 1995-96 to learn things. Those, two years were amazing during 1994-96.

I finished my yoga and meditation that I started in grade 3 before 1980 and that also had conclusions that I wrote. While having feelings of having no weight I consulted a doctor by chance and I was given medicines of depression that was a big mistake the doctor and I made. Its not thus due to medication or otherwise that I have already done and finished in 1996 named as Philselfology.

During these times from 1993-96, I did not take tea either. However, ignoring my yoga and meditation, the doctors did almost all medicine and drug experiment for until at least 2006 leaving me saying they did all according to the symptom I said rather than listening to me. When I gave close to death results, I was given advice to do what seems right to me...

I wrote about AI, Shifting of Earth, Ecology, Solar System, Universe and lot more that was based on my intuitive studies with mediation on the topics and thus what I developed as Art of Research.

By the end of 1996, I have finished all that can give natural arts as alternative to AI, the Artificial Intelligence. However, as after finishing it in 1996 the doctors who tried antidepressant may claim that my results might be from medical advancement. However, the medicine was taken afterwards giving no results but side effects.

Thus, Yoga, Meditation, Fasting, Intuition and Research Go Together.

Please read more from this blog post: http://www.lifemetaphysical.co.cc/2011/08/how-and-why-i-write-about-metaphysics.html

Thanks for your time reading it.

Meat Shops Make Animals Seem a Delicious Food Only: Meat Eaters Like and Others Dislike This Show of Skinless Flesh and Blood

I was reading the following appeal at Facebook shared at the Angles for Animals and felt that we can think with some other points that human-animal need attention:

Start a legislative campaign to ban circuses and other traveling exhibits in your town or county. This has already happened in a number of towns, and it can happen in yours! Contact PETA for a circus ordinance pack. (With thanks from the source: http://www.facebook.com/groups/185139404883955/doc/189356407795588/)

I fully agree but also disagree at it. Where I disagree has a reason. We have meat shops where all people including the children, young and aged people look at the hanging bodies of dead animals. It shows flesh only, yes the flesh with skin. Most of the people, who eat meat feel really happy seeing it as if a place of delicious foods.

The others, who do not eat it also feel bad as they can see dead bodies of animals without skin and blood and flesh making one feel sick. Its a great sickness to see it in country like India. These are not packed but given as freshly cutting the dead body of the animals.

Please pause and think about it.

Thanks! Please share it if it seems considerable.

The post with some more details is here: Meat Shops Make Animals Seem a Delicious Food Only: Meat Eaters Like and Others Dislike This Show of Skinless Flesh and Blood: It Harms the Tender and Sensitive People Even to See It

Thanks again!

The celebrated silk-and-lace bridal gown worn by Queen Victoria offers some clues about what Kate Middleton will wear when she walks down the aisle April 29, even if much has changed since Victoria's low-key wedding in 1840.

Victoria didn't have to get married in front of live TV cameras with thousands of reporters and photographers camped outside. And she tied the knot in a relatively small private chapel, not the cavernous chamber of Westminster Abbey.
That means a small basic dress like Victoria's simply won't do, said Joanna Marschner, senior curator at Britain's Historic Royal Palaces, which takes care of Victoria's gown and other dresses worn by past royal brides.

"The dress has to rise to the occasion," said Marschner. "It has to be big, it has to stand up to the scale of the space and stand up to the scrutiny of all those eyes. It has to carry the day, it has to say something about our time, and it has to be the choice of the bride. She has to be comfortable in it."

Despite intense interest, the identity of Middleton's designer and the style of her dress have remained a closely held secret. Palace officials say Middleton wants to surprise fiance Prince William when she steps out of her to cross the Abbey threshold.
Marschner would not make any predictions, except to say that the designer must respect the decorum associated with Westminster Abbey. That means a strapless gown or a plunging neckline are unlikely - Middleton will probably have to wait for an evening reception at Buckingham Palace if she wants to wear something more revealing.
The only generally accepted guideline is that the designer will be British. Just as Victoria used English lace and silk woven in London to show support for British industry, Middleton faces overwhelming pressure to use a British designer.

Attention has focused on Sarah Burton, creative director at the prominent Alexander McQueen house, Sophie Cranston, the lesser-known founder of the Libelula label or Bruce Oldfield, a prominent favorite of the late Princess Diana.

Cranston's name surfaced this week with press reports naming her as a possible dark horse contender for the most coveted dress commission in years.
"My thought is everyone who has been mentioned is in the running," said Astrid Joss, shopping editor at Brides magazine. "Sophie Cranston has as good a chance as anyone. It's realistic, Kate has worn her pieces. It is understated, she does slim, elegant dresses that suit Kate's style."

Choosing Cranston would be a way for Middleton to champion smaller, less expensive local designers, Joss said.

Victoria also had to make some political choices when assembling her wedding outfit.

Marschner said Victoria made sure to show support for English workers by using lace from the West Country village of Honiton and silk woven in the country.

Conquering the Stairs by Ginny Dye, the Founder and CEO of The Ultimate Life Company

Have you ever let fear conquer you? Well today, you're going to read about an amazing dog who helped me overcome mine.

Caspian was a new addition to my household. He had shown up in the front yard of my 100 year old Virginia farmhouse one early morning. He was skin and bones, covered with ticks, fleas and sores, and had been shot - his skinny body riddled with buckshot. I took one look at this pathetic animal and told him he was home.

It took weeks of vet treatments, baths and many bowls of food, but he finally began to look like a dog that was going to make it. His bones began to disappear, his coat took on a shine, and he became my constant shadow to show his appreciation for me saving his life. He was always with me - except when I went upstairs to my office.

My home had a wide expanse of wooden stairs that led to the 2nd floor. Caspian was terrified of them. It didn't matter what I did to build his confidence, or what wonderful tidbit of food I tempted him with, he refused to climb those stairs. He would just cower at the bottom stair and shake all over whenever I got him near them. Yet when I went up to my office, he was overcome with despair at being separated from me and laid at the bottom whimpering and whining.

I had no idea what had created this fear, and I had even less of an idea of how to conquer it. After two weeks of daily attempts, I finally gave up. If he didn't want to climb the stairs - so be it. But my only defense from his pitiful whining was to turn the music up any time I needed to be in my office. When I would leave my office and come downstairs, Caspian would erupt with frantic joy to be reunited once again.

About a month into this pattern, I was awakened one morning by a noise. I lay in bed trying to identify what it was.

Click, click, click. Silence. Click, click, click. Silence.

It kept on for close to fifteen minutes before my curiosity finally overwhelmed my desire to stay under the warm covers. I threw aside my quilt, grabbed a robe and went out to investigate. When I identified the source of the noise, I just stood there with my mouth wide open.

I watched as Caspian carefully climbed the stairs. Click, click, click. He got to the top, turned around, and then started back down. Click, click, click.

When he got to the bottom, he turned and gazed at me as if to say, It's really no big deal. I can do this!

And then he did it again, and again, and again. at least 25 more times - after already having done it for 15 minutes before I finally came to investigate.

I watched his confidence grow with each ascent and descent of the "dreaded stairs." His tongue hung out in joy and at the end his tail was wagging is triumph over his fears. He knew he would never again have to be separated from me because of the stairs.

I already loved him, but that day I gained an incredible respect for his courage and resilience. I was also challenged about what I was willing to do to overcome my fears. Was I willing to stare my fears in the face and then take the steps to overcome that fear? Was I willing to feel the fear, and then do it anyway? Was I willing to attack my fears, for as long as it took to overcome them? I made a lot of decisions that day that have given me a much richer life - and I have Caspian to thank for it!

So now I pose the same questions to you: Are you willing to stare your fears in the face and then take the steps to overcome them? Are you willing to feel the fear, and then do it anyway? Are you willing to attack your fears for as long as it takes to overcome them?

Every time you are faced with a fear, try to remember a courageous dog that was able to conquer his fears with love and determination - and then follow his lead. All of us are afraid of something in our lives. There is no shame in being afraid. The key to victory, however, is to face your fear head on and do whatever it takes to overcome it.
Five Ways to Go Green on St. Patrick's Day for the Animals and the Environment

What better day to go green than on St. Patrick's Day? We have come up with the following five simple ways that you can make this St. Patrick's Day one for the animals and the environment:

1. One of the leading causes of climate change is meat production. Inform yourself and everyone you know that "meat's not green"!

2. The best thing that you can do to help the environment is to go vegan. Go green (and help animals!) by pledging to go vegan today.

3. Share the "Meat's Not Green" video on Facebook and expose the truth behind factory farms.

4. Take it to the streets—pass out "Meat's Not Green" leaflets and encourage others to go green too!

5. Showcase your cooking talents to your friends and family with a delicious St. Patty's Day treat. We suggest vegan Irish whiskey cake.

Don't forget to wear green too—you don't want to get pinched!

With thanks from the source: http://www.peta.org/action/st-patricks-day.aspx as they also sent the following message:

Monday is usually the work day we dread the most, right? Well, not anymore! You can start to enjoy your Mondays by implementing Meatless Monday at your workplace. Not only will you have something to look forward to on Monday, you will also be making a difference in the lives of your coworkers and in the lives of animals.

As you may know, going vegan saves more than 100 animals a year and helps reduce climate change and world hunger, all the while improving your health. It's the single most effective way to help animals, and we've made it easier than ever to start this program, with Meatless Monday resources.

PETA has created a Meatless Monday pack that will help you successfully lead your company to join the Meatless Monday movement. Give it a shot—it's easy and fun, and you'll make a difference!

Sincerely,

PETA

Lessons Learned From Merlin
Written December 23, 2003

For the last hour, I've been scuffling about my kitchen in my oversized UGG slippers (it's not a hazard as long as I don't try the stairs), whipping up a sugar cookie recipe that requires a full pound of Crisco, and wondering how in the world I'm going to write this year's Christmas novella.

For those of you who've been the recipient of said novella for the last - uh - 18 years or so, I'm well aware that last year's Armitage family Christmas letter was conspicuously missing. I just can't possibly let you down again, heaven forbid, but HOW do I explain this year's proceedings?

I'm going to start with an event that occurred today. It's not meant to be morbid and it IS directly connected to one of the more memorable events of my year, so kindly bear with me.

Today, Merlin came home to me by way of a UPS truck. If you haven't heard already, my beloved, forever shedding Great Pyrenees partner in crime these last 11 years passed on to another form of life on December 8th. He died because half of his heart had given out, proving my suspicions from his puppyhood that he, like the Whoville Grinch, had a heart that was simply several sizes too big.

After I kissed his nose for the last time, I arranged to have his ashes delivered to me, which was supposed to take a day or two at most. Instead, they called me yesterday (14 days later) to tell me they'd accidentally tried to deliver him to another family and that he was still on the UPS truck, on his way to me this time. Today, true to form, a sweating UPS truck driver sprinted to my door with Merlin solidly lodged under his arm.

As I carried Merlin (in his new state) upstairs, I couldn't help but chuckle. Nothing in the entire world caused greater gnashing-of-teeth for Merlin than the UPS truck and its attached men in brown. It was the only single thing that taunted him into trampling down fences and sprinting for blocks down rush-hour traffic streets. and here's how he ended up, lodged in the bowels of the evil incarnate monster itself (AND during the holiday season to boot) in herkyjerky, stop-and-go fashion for two full weeks.

That, my friend, is Karma. Take it from Merlin: If you're chasing after anything in life with some level of misdirected anger, that very thing will likely get the better of you in the end.

That being said, I'll give Merlin credit for helping me maintain misdirected anger over the last 11 years - even this last year. Merlin was a high-spirited, conniving creature who liked to skitter around on his tippy-toes and create instant wainscotting in every home by sliding drooly, dirty tennis balls along the wall. But he'd also follow me from room to room when he knew I was upset until I'd finally flump down and throw my arms around him. He loved me unconditionally with great warmth and a giving soul that knew no other way to be. And that was a lesson I did, indeed, learn from Merlin.

This last year didn't start well. As the New Year began, I found myself struggling with a business I didn't really like, and paying rent I didn't really want to pay anymore. So, 'round about March, Merlin and I had a talk and decided to stop with the misdirected anger and start creating a better story.

And so we did. As I say in all the stuff I write, "If you don't like the situation you're in, recognize you created it and fix it." It was time to take my own medicine. Mer and I drove all around the town of Laguna in my little convertible until we found our new home. With the move made in March to a lovely place just a block from the beach, I then tackled the not liking-my-business issue with grim determination. Fact is, if you're not doing what you love to do every day, you're cheating yourself. I knew there were too many good and exciting people out there to work with and as I focused on THIS fact, those very people started coming in the door.

It wasn't until July that I got up the nerve to e-mail the one person I wanted to work with most - my most favorite past client. This client and I have tried and failed at working together twice before, and hitting that initial "SEND" button this time around wasn't easy. Ten minutes later, however, we were on our way to working together again and now we're back on track and working quite harmoniously. I delight in what I do every day for this man's company. It's not easy and it's got its tenuous, warbly-chin, pounding headache moments. But, I delight in it. Pure and simple as that. It's supposed to be that simple, I believe.

On a connected note - I've also "happened" upon a couple solid web programming teams, both of which are quite capable of handling all my client urgencies. What I find most amazing about these web teams is that I was very solidly prepared to NOT like working with them after all the experiences I'd had through the years with not-so-great programming teams. But, again, it's all about focusing on what I want to expand, not on what I don't want to expand. Fortunately, somewhere along the way, I also realized that chasing programmers down rush-hour streets while barking my fool head off was only going to succeed in getting ME killed - yet another lesson I learned from Merlin, who always and eventually gave up the chase with a shrug.

On the opposite end of the work spectrum, I somehow ended up in an outrigger canoe club on the wild ocean this summer. How a landlocked Denver girl ever found her way to jumping in and out of a Hawaiian-style 6-man canoe is something I still can't quite fathom myself, much less explain to anyone else. My friend, Deb, a fellow spin-class victim, made me promise to try it and, after my first grudging day, I was hooked. Line and sinker, I might add.

What I thought would be something kind of friendly and social and interactive. like a bowling league on Monday nights. turned out to be a highly competitive 7-month season that entailed a minimum of 15-hours of weekly practice and full days of racing just about every weekend. I was the "stroker" - the Seat #1 gal - for my novice team and we happily and surprisingly won more than we lost. In August, we were imported into the "big girls' boats" - the gals who'd been paddling for years. In our last race of the season, we paddled 31 miles to Catalina Island in about 4 hours.

Aside from this odd sport opening up a host of uncommon injuries and new battle scars, the sport also opened up a whole new community of fun, athletic people to me - people from all walks of life who never would have crossed my path otherwise. This, coupled with my ever-lasting and loving friends in Denver and around the continent, my burgeoning group of wonderful friends from spin class, and my growing community of buddies and neighbors in this small town of Laguna Beach has made for a most enjoyable and busy year. I can't say I remember enjoying myself so much - ever.

So, here I sit on Christmas Eve's Eve with Merlin perched on my lap. (This must be nirvana for Merlin - he is, at last, a lap dog.) And his lessons are here in my head:

. If you chase after something in anger, it will find a way to bite you back.

. Be sure to follow your closest friends from room to room when you know they're upset.

. Give generously of your warmth and soul. You've got more where that came from.

. Be the first to press the "SEND" button when you haven't talked to someone in a while.

. If you're trying to chase something off because it seems like a threat to you, it might be better to stop, shrug and give it up.

. Delight in your days. It's supposed to be that simple.

. And lastly, never lose sight of your family and friends. They're the home you want to return to, even if the only way to get there is by UPS truck.

Diane Armitage

Diane Armitage - www.Armitageinc.com - is a renowned marketing writer, Internet strategist and fixer of lame web sites.
"My best friend, Ricky"
By
Bob Perks

There is much to be said about the love
between a man and his dog. "Man's best
friend," describes it best. I believe most
men would be quick to say he/she's "my buddy."

I simply love my dogs. We have three.

Lucy is a Schipperke/Spaniel mix we adopted from
the SPCA. She was the first one just weeks after
we had to put our Old English, Daisy to sleep. We
just couldn't stand the emptiness in our house and
in our lives.

Ricky is a laid back, very settled, Jack Russell.
I know that description doesn't normally go with
that breed. But that is exactly the way he is.

Phil, the newer member of our family is a Chihuahua
mix. He is vibrant, full of life and just what we all
needed two years ago when he arrived as a gift for me
on Father's Day.

Each of them brings something different into my life.
Like a buffet, I get a little of everything I need, just when
I need it.

Lucy is truly the "alpha dog." The others actually watch
their step around her. I have seen Ricky approach her
slowly, head bowed and not making eye contact with her.
Sometimes for no reason at all she jumps at him snarling
and he turns his head until she struts away.

She is my little girl and late at night when I am still at the
computer, she'll come scratching at me to pick her up. I
hold her and she looks around the room as if she is seeing
it for the first time. When she was a puppy, she was afraid
of the sun. She just couldn't figure what that big light was.

Phil and Lucy are best friends. He follows her around
and often taunts her just to get her aggravated. She responds
and he does it again. Phil is not one to be held much. He'll
sit with you on a lawn chair in the sun. But he doesn't snuggle.

But it is Ricky I really want to share with you today. I
said earlier that he is laid back, and very settled. He is also
the most loving dog I have ever seen. If you hold him and
kiss the side of his face, he will rub it against yours as if
to say, "more, please." You can snuggle and hold him and
he will stay there as long as you let him.

I am not a foo foo. poochy kind of guy. When I go to the vets
with them I try not to make conversation with the other
owners in the waiting room. They do "doggy talk."

"Oh, look it Fluffy, there's a big doggy. Do you want to go say
hello?"

I respond when dragged into a conversation only.

Here's where some of you will think I cross the line.

Ricky is a Godly dog. He responds to my needs as if God told
him to. Over the last few weeks I have been struggling
with personal issues. In those most dark and sometimes
frightening times, I suddenly hear Ricky sitting nearby
moaning trying to get my attention. I turn, he jumps up
on my lap and crawls up my left side and rests his head on
my shoulder.

I have learned to sit back and relax and let him do his job.
He comforts me and like when I hug someone I let
him be the first to let go.

He then gets down and walks away. Every time I have
slumped to a new level, I turn to find him there. Every time.

When days are good for me, he goes about his business.
I love all my dogs, but Ricky is my best friend.

Oh, yes. One other thing. Before my wife discovered she
had breast cancer, Ricky would jump up on her lap and
before settling in he would oddly sniff around, rub his nose
under her left breast. At the time we just found it odd.
It wasn't until recently that we remembered that.

She had a double mastectomy which was first detected
on the left side.

They have proven that ability in some dogs.

Ricky and Lucy are around 11 years old and Phil 2.
If you know me well enough you will know that I have
thought about what lies ahead all too many times.

I just pray to God that I will be holding Ricky when
he needs me most.

I know there's a place we humans created in our minds
called "Rainbow Bridge." There is a great debate
regarding pets in Heaven, too. All I know is wherever
dogs go when they die, I want to go there, too. That
would be Heaven to me.
"I wish you enough!"
J
Bob Perks

I encourage you to share my stories but
I do ask that you keep my name and contact
information with my work.

If you would like to receive Bob's Inspirational
stories, please visit http://www.IWishYouEnough.com
and submit your email address.
"I Wish You enough!"
© 2001 Bob Perks
I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright.
I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun more.
I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive.
I wish you enough pain so that the smallest joys in life appear
much bigger.
I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting.
I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess.
I wish you enough "Hello's" to get you through the final "Goodbye."

We cannot control nature but we can manage it very well. You see when we tend or try to control we are as if teaching nature how to function and work, and we all can allow nature to work its wonders if we manage what it gives us to manage. The concept of self-disciple is first step towards self-management. Now, self-discipline is not self-control.

To be clearer the Nature follows Coexistence not Extinction as it restores anything and thus everything to Coexist that has any tendency to have Risk of Extinction as it Restores Our Health.

Thus, Nature follows Coexistence not Extinction as it Restores Everything to Coexist - Risk of Extinction and Restoration of Our Health

Our tendency to control weakens us as we are no longer a learner, but trainer or teacher who wants results. The results are based on our wishes so it is not controlling but forcing others to give the desired results that does not allow an individual or employee to go for greater contribution but aiming at the target. The achievement of target is selfish motive that drives one to do anything good or bad without having sense of what is the difference between these two extremes.

Why one is unconsciously or subconsciously depressed and stressed seems a result that one achieve the target but may not get the full credit as it is not personal achievement but of the company. Now, the company is not going to give its share as the governmental works give to public services and one knows it. The company goes richer, but the nation as the ethics and value systems do not allow it. These are right because these are standards of any business however it may not pay the taxes honestly that can indirectly help the employee.

It thus makes one feel secure in government job and not in the private sector. The bond papers that one signs are broken or breaching occurs daily. This rarely happens that one resigns from the government job even at higher packages and bonuses are present.

The difference in the government and private is very little, but the in real life private sector fails at the end after some decades. the reasons are from the money making and quick fix policies.

We as public can ask why the private companies want to include government sector in their works and thus business it seems that people have lost their trust in them. Now, even the governments may not do anything if the image of the governments become same as of private sector. However, the private media is projecting governmental services as very poor and thus divert people toward private sector. This does not seem a solution but a big problem as as civilians we do not have a choice but to set some standards, ethics, values that help all in the society as we are living in the society.

This does not mean that Marxism or Capitalism are theories that can go far away with little and lucid changes make public a brainy broker. We may change according what nature does, allow all to coexist and let have their share neither more than one deserves nor less than one needs. This is how nature works and manages life with such a high diversification just as it knows in which direction water should flow.

We seem to create dams from the tears that come as rivers from the natural world. This is emotional blackmailing using sharp intellect and we can do a greater good by self-discipline if we love our nation and civilization while respecting all as one, the human civilization supporting the Civilization of Nature.

We always have a choice whether to manage nature or control but focus on results seems better than wishes fulfilled.

P.S.: How to Manage without Controlling - Some Changes Needed - Why Private Sector Fails is personal opinion based on my research work about the Law of Attraction and Affinity for Coexistence.

Thanks again for your time reading it.
