According to a recent article in The Detroit News, Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm has denied the Shrine Circus its request to bring its show to the state fairgrounds. Elephants, tigers, and other animals used in circuses often suffer from extreme confinement and face abusive training. The Shrine Circus now has only one week to locate a new venue for its 2010 shows.

Please contact Gov. Granholm and thank her for denying the Shrine Circus its request to perform at the fairgrounds. Let her know that she has many compassionate supporters who oppose any circus that uses animals for entertainment.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has cited Shrine Circus exhibitors for failing to provide animals with veterinary care, adequate shelter from the elements, nutritious food, and clean water and for failing to handle animals in a manner that prevents trauma and harm to the animals and ensures public safety. Animals used by the Shrine Circus have caused deaths and injuries.

Thank you for taking action to help stop the suffering that animals endure in the Shrine Circus and other circuses.
